Spend your summer with AAJA Seattle!
Contrary to what our current weather may suggest, summer is just around the corner. And with that comes a few AAJA events and we hope you’ll join us!
Our first event is Walk for Rice on June 28 from 8 a.m. to noon.
We’ve formed an AAJA Seattle team to participate in this annual fundraiser, which features a 2.5-mile walk or run at Seward Park in Seattle, to help raise money for the Asian Counseling and Referral Service’s (ACRS) Food Bank. The food bank serves more than 5,000 low-income people, who make more than 120,000 visits, each year and is also the only food bank in the area regularly providing cultural staples of the Asian Pacific American diet, like rice, tofu and soy milk.
To find our team, click here. From there, you can join our team by clicking the blue “Join Our Team” button on the right side of the page. Our goal is to have at least 10 members. WE STILL NEED TEAM MEMBERS! Family and friends are also invited to join.
If you cannot make it to the event, you can still contribute by donating on our AAJA Seattle team page and clicking on individual team members’ pages to donate through their pages.
Chapter secretary Samatha Pak is the AAJA Seattle team captain for the fundraiser, so if you have any questions, please let her know (sammipak@gmail.com)! A Facebook event page has also been created for our team, which could be used to keep track of those planning to attend, coordinate carpools to the event, fundraising ideas, etc.
Chef Showcase
On Aug. 4, we will be holding a Chef Showcase fundraiser for our chapter at the Columbia Tower Club.
The event is tentatively scheduled for 6-8 p.m. and is being organized by our chapter President Mai Hoang and members Thanh Tan and Venice Buhain, who were all selected and participated in last year’s Executive Leadership Program (ELP) through AAJA National.
The showcase will feature demonstrations from some of Seattle’s top chefs and give attendees an opportunity to mingle and network and enjoy drinks and food from area Seattle restaurants in addition to watching the culinary skills of our chefs.
Funds from this event will go toward funding AAJA Seattle professional development programs such as ELP.
For more information, contact Thanh at uscthanhtan@gmail.com.
And finally, AAJA Seattle’s Annual Summer BBQ will be Aug. 9 from noon to 5 p.m. at Lincoln Park in West Seattle.
Come say hi to old friends and colleagues, meet new friends, and don’t forget to bring your favorite dish as this is a potluck!
Also, as this year’s AAJA Convention in Washington D.C. is Aug. 13-16, it’ll give us all a chance to gather before folks head out the following week.
Please RSVP on the Facebook event page and let us know what you want to bring in the page comments. We will be at tables 55 and 56 by the water.
Please call Caroline (347) 280-3595 if you have trouble finding the area.
